The course for the half marathon and up will be a 3-ish mile loop/out-and-back course using the Montgomery Bell State Park trail system and the road in and out of the group camp. The trail is technical – there are roots and rocks – and hilly in some spots. The road section includes a hill. This ain’t flat and fast! But the human support you’ll get will make up for it.
You’ll pass by the main aid station multiple times, so your crew does not need to travel to help take care of you. (Though they are welcome to if they’d like.) The main aid station will have cooked food, tables and tables of snacks and Gu and drinks and ice and first aid and compression boots and cowbells, of course. There will be at least one unmanned mini aid station with ice, water, Gatorade, Gu, and snacks. Don’t worry, we’ll replenish it throughout the weekend to keep you fueled.
10K, 5K, and one mile fun run races will be held on the roads of the group camp.
This is not and will not be a certified course. The distance will be correct (we’ve never had a short course and we don’t intend to start now!) If your GPS reads long – we won’t charge you extra. If your GPS reads short, you’re welcome to keep running. Remember that every GPS watch is different and many are not 100% accurate, particularly in the woods. We make sure that we meet standards for Marathon Maniacs, Half Fanatics, and 50 States Club, because that – and having fun – are what is important to us!
